I purchased my Ford Fiesta ST back in January 2011 and since then I have been slowly modifying it as and when I get the time. I am by no means any kind of expert on car modification but I have been determined to do all the work either myself or with the help of friends.
This is a technique that involves using a long exposure time on the camera combined with a torch to highlight parts of the car. This was my first attempt and here are the results:
I've always had my eye on the Compomotive MO5's. After I saw this set measuring 17x8j with 225/35/17 Falken FK452 tyres I knew I had to have them. A short drive over to Leeds later and I had them tucked in the boot.

I did have to remove my 20.5mm spacers to prevent the rear tyres from sitting outside of the arches.

Here they are:
The underground carpark there makes a pretty good setting for taking a few photos.
These make a big change to the look of the standard rear wheels which fill the arches far better. The theory is that they also make the car more stable which assists handling.

The spacer fits behind the hub and so requires the caliper to be unbolted and swung to one side and also the removal of the brake discs. Furthermore, behind the discs is a shield which is riveted to the car. The rivets must be drilled so the shield can be removed. When reassembling, the shield can simply be placed back and is held by the hub and brake components.

Some sources say that the spacer needs to be cut in order to accomodate the ABS sensor, I didn't find this to be the case on my facelift car. The bolts supplied with the spacers were too long however and fouled on the hub. We simply cut them shorter using a hacksaw.kinobestew123http://www.blogger.com/profile/07105005030897270651noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3171343024441281554.post-87056537375995752502011-05-07T09:00:00.000-07:002011-11-04T10:10:23.828-07:0007th May 2011 - Bilstein B12 SuspensionOne of my small complaints about the Fiesta ST as standard was that the suspension seemed a little bit crashy when on uneven roads or when hitting potholes. After reading around on fordfiestaST.co.uk, the general concensus seemed to be to replace both the springs and dampers.

One of the forum members was stripping his "beaST" Fiesta ST and so I snapped up his Bilstein B12 suspension.

The installation was done in my friend's garage. He had access to a hydraulic ramp and all the required tools which made the job far quicker and easier. The whole job took around 4-5 hours including installing 20.5mm spacers on the rear axels (see the page on these). The installation could have been done quicker but we were taking our time and cleaned them all thoroughly before fitting.

The suspension kit comprises the Bilstein B8 dampers which were developed at the Nurburgring and the Eibach Pro springs which lower the car by a uniform 30mm over standard. Bilsten describe the suspension as follows:

If you're looking for the perfect combination of sporty dynamics, a superior appearance and high performance, you're on exactly the right track with this Bilstein B12 sport suspension kit.

The B12 Suspension Kit benefits at a glance:

- Precise responses, excellent driving dynamics and added safety
- Uniform lowering of approx. 30 mm
- Quality sport springs made from highly durable material
- Springs and absorbers road-tested by Bilstein engineers and fine-tuned to complement one another perfectly
- Gas pressure technology
- Bilstein mono-tube/Upside-Down technology, made in Germany
- German TUV certificate

The handling is absolutely fantastic now it is done, far far better than the already good standard suspension. Not only does it feel less 'crashy' on uneven roads, it is more solid, 30mm lower and has less roll on the corners.kinobestew123http://www.blogger.com/profile/07105005030897270651noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3171343024441281554.post-88807222305819504712011-05-01T09:00:00.000-07:002011-11-04T09:59:24.160-07:0001st May 2011 - HID HeadlightsFinally the modding started. After getting a fairly good deal on a HIDS4U.co.uk Bi-Xenon 6000k 35w HID Kit through ebay I decided to go ahead and fit them.

These pictures show the HIDs on one side and the standard lights on the other. There is a huge difference in both colour and brightness with the new set.

Having never fitted a set before I made sure to take my time. Luckily the set was very well designed and because they are 35w instead of 55w, they did not require any additional wiring running from the battery or other power source. I was able to successfully place the ballast boxes next to the front upper grill where they sit neatly and can be seen when the engine bay is opened.

I also hid all the other connectors and boxes within the headlight unit itself and cut a small section from the rubber disc on the back of the unit to allow the wires to pass through.kinobestew123http://www.blogger.com/profile/07105005030897270651noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3171343024441281554.post-8564901241277120162011-04-24T09:00:00.000-07:002011-11-04T09:49:50.636-07:0024th April 2011 - Pendle Hill MeetMy first fordfiestast.co.uk meet was at Pendle Hill in April. I had been due to attend a meet around a month or so earlier but a night out in Manchester the night before left me feeling a little worse for wear and in no fit state to be driving.

The day was great fun and it was nice to meet other members of the forum. My car was still standard and as I spent the day looking around other people's STs I started feeling the need to begin making changes to my own. I was especially impressed with the sprayed plastic grills that the majority of members had.
Nothing major, just car shampoo with a microfibre cloth to remove some of the surface dust and dirt which had been picked up off the gritty winter roads.

After a couple of days it looked a bit dirty again, but I took these photos in the work underground car park.
Due to a lack of time and my reliance on my cars for work I decided a new car was needed.

After searching around and running many quotes on various cars I settled on a Ford Fiesta ST. I went to look at one in the Bury Ford dealership but the car had engine problems and had to be set away for repairs. I eventually purchased my Fiesta ST from Evans Halshaw in Burnley.

The car was completely standard when I got it and it came in the Colorado Red colour. I have always had a soft touch for red cars and thought this was perfect. The very same day I signed up to the www.fordfiestaST.com forums where I found all kinds of useful information and knowledgable members.

When I picked up the car several days later, the dealer had cleaned the car and engine bay. Unfortunately the cleaning product they used on the engine seemed to have been sucked into the air intake and caused the engine management light to come on. A quick trip back to the garage resulted in a new oxygen sensor being fitted under the warranty which cured the issue.kinobestew123http://www.blogger.com/profile/07105005030897270651noreply@blogger.com0
