07th May 2011 - 20.5mm Rear Spacers

At the same time as fitting the Bilstein B12 suspension I fitted the Ford 20.5mm spacers. These make a big change to the look of the standard rear wheels which fill the arches far better. The theory is that they also make the car more stable which assists handling.

The spacer fits behind the hub and so requires the caliper to be unbolted and swung to one side and also the removal of the brake discs. Furthermore, behind the discs is a shield which is riveted to the car. The rivets must be drilled so the shield can be removed. When reassembling, the shield can simply be placed back and is held by the hub and brake components.

Some sources say that the spacer needs to be cut in order to accomodate the ABS sensor, I didn't find this to be the case on my facelift car. The bolts supplied with the spacers were too long however and fouled on the hub. We simply cut them shorter using a hacksaw.
